Jesse James Mattox, Sr., 92, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022 in Indianapolis, IN. He was a former resident of both Peru and Gary, IN. Jesse was born on November 19, 1929 in Elbert County, GA as one of 13 children to the late Clyde and Jeanie Lee (Long) Mattox.
Jesse was a graduate of Elbert County High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1951-1953. During his military service, Jesse was stationed in Fort Polk, LA and was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC. He worked for 22 years at LTV Steel in East Chicago, IN and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN. Jesse will be remembered as an outstanding husband, and a great father and grandfather.
Jesse is survived by his son, Jesse James Mattox, Jr. (spouse, Rebecca) of Peru, Indiana. He is also survived by grandchildren, Anthony Mattox, Deja Mattox and Rhonnie Thompson; and 8 great grandchildren.
Jesse was preceded in by his parents and all of his siblings; along with his beloved wife, Annie Ruth Mattox; and daughter, Wanda Mattox-Montgomery.
